Buffalo Camp Accommodation

Built along more traditional Safari Camp lines, Buffalo Camp is still luxurious, and an excellent starting point for getting to see wildlife in the their natural habitat.

Accommodation is in eight luxury tents, set on wooden decks built on stilts over a steep-sided riverbank, and high amongst the trees. Branches of the bush willow and leadwood trees surround your balcony. Wooden walkways connect the tents, and lead down to the main areas of the camp. The river below rarely flows and antelopes can bee seen daily in the sandy riverbed. All the Tens have electricity, are en-suite, and are equipped with safe, writing table, wardrobe, suitcase stand and tea/coffee making facilities.

The Camp’s main areas are set on the banks of the River. These consist of a dining room, thatched bar, pool terrace and campfire. The pool is perfect for a cooling dip, rather than an actual swim, and there are sun umbrellas to relax under during the afternoon siesta. Lanterns, rather than electric lights, glow at night under the trees, creating an intimate ambience for guests. Buffalo Camps pays particular attention to personal service, as it keeps a small, intimate atmosphere. There is a cosy lounge on the edge of the riverbank under a vaulted thatch with ceiling fans – this is truly a restful place to sit and listen to the birds in the surrounding trees.

Dining is an experience, and the classic safari camp atmosphere is perpetuated at mealtimes with serve-yourself choices presented in heavy African cooking pots set over a gentle flame. Hot and cold breakfast and lunch options are spread out across the servery, whilst dinner is prepared in the kitchen or cooked on the grill and served around an open fire in the circular traditional outdoor Boma.

Kapama Game Reserve is well positioned to offer a good range of activities. There are two game drives a day and an optional bush walk is also available.

In addition, there are a number of optional activities and experiences that you might wish to try, from a Romantic Sleep out on a platform high in the trees, on white linen surrounded by lanterns and billowing mosquito netting, with a luxurious bathroom with flush toilet at ground level. Then there are the Body and Skin treatments at the Wellness Centre, which includes a small pool, gym, steam room, and 4 treatment rooms.

Kapama is perhaps best known for its Elephant Back Safari, the perfect way to get up close and personal with an African elephant, and to enjoy game viewing in a most unique way.

You might want to go beyond the Reserve, and enjoy a Hot Air Balloon trip, or visit the Children?s home (Thulumahashe) which is supported by the Reserve, and the Hoedspruit Centre for Endangered Species, doing excellent rehabilitation work. And for the more active, there is always a round of golf at the nearby Hans Merensky Championship Course.
